NUITS SONORES FESTIVAL — May 2010
How can one illustrate sound? Our first reference for this Visual identity is the abstract paintor
Wladimir Kandinsky, who composed his Harmonics paintings by arranging in his canvas a serie of predefined
shapes. We also drew our inspiration from the american Abstract Expressionists' spontaneity and freedom
of creation (particularly Jackson Pollock and Sam Francis).

We've constituted a library of patterns, illustrating the various musical styles presented in the 2010 edition:
swaying melodies, electro beats, ethnic rythms, metallic riffs, ambiance tracks… We then used those
patterns to draw an all-over composition largely inspired by Pollock's paintings; that we set as background
for all communication matters. We wish to represent in our own way the explosive and dynamic qualities
of the festival. Each format will be randomly cut out of our musical tapestry and provide an ever-evolving
and unique printed communication.

Our shapes respond to one another, superimpose and repeat themselves, echo, clink and clash as sounds do
during a concert. From flyers to monumental installations, the identity will spread out, unfold and expend itself
like a firework, highlighting the beautiful city of Lyon.
